Dont just take our word for it...

Heres what some of our valued clients have to say.

John and Jane Allen

We have been with Mike since he started his practice.  He displays uncommon ability and patience with our pets, all the time with a great degree of honour, which gets us through all the bad patches.  A humane man with a great love of animals.

My name is Zoe and I am a 7 year old Poodle/American Cocker Spaniel cross.  No, I am not a spoodle.  I am a Cocka poo: it’s a funny American name.  Dr Mike has been a vet and friend since I was about 2 months old.  I give Dr Mike and my parents a lot to think about as since I turned 2 I have been suffering from epilepsy and have regular seizures.  Dr Mike takes great care of me, but always telling me I am overweight.  I love going to his surgery and playing with my friend Coco.

Thank you Dr Mike, you are the best

When you move to a new city, not only do you need to find a new doctor, dentist, hairdresser etc, but if you have pets you need to find a new vet ... someone you can really trust for your precious fur babies.

17 years ago I moved to Wellington and 16 years ago I visited the Animal Medical Centre for the first time, and wouldn’t think of going anywhere else.  Mike’s not only an excellent vet from a medical perspective - he’s also been fantastic helping us work through the tough decisions that you need to face at some point with your pets.  He and all his team are compassionate and empathetic – they completely understand that your pet is a very important part of your family.

We now have two little puppies and they’ve had to make a few visits to the Animal Medical Centre for generic puppy care.  A very big thank you to Mike, Antoinette, Sue and everyone else at the clinic for making Baxter and Archie so welcome ... and for making their humans feel 110% comfortable that they’re getting the best possible care : )

Margaret and Warren Nixon

"Warren and I first met Mike when he cared for our cat Cassie in her later years. Since then he has cared for our 4 current cats as they have arrived - first, Honey and Sazzy, then Jamie, then Dylan.

I say "cared for" because caring is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Mike. I dropped into the practice once to buy some cat biscuits and, in the course of my transaction with the receptionist, Mike asked "How's Sazzy on the pills?"  I was very touched that Mike's care extended to remembering me, Sazzy's name, and Sazzy's current treatment.

After "caring", many other words come to mind.  Mike's empathy and thoroughness are just 2 of his many characteristics as a vet that I want to illustrate.

Our Dylan started his life with us as hissy-spitty SPCA fosterling.  As he has grown up, he has bonded with only one human being in the whole world, ie, Warren.  However, Dylan let Mike examine him and give him his vaccination - truly, a feat that could be achieved only by a vet with a deep connection with animals.

All of our cats have gone to Mike at various times accompanied by a guilty me, fearing that my fosterlings have imperilled their health..  Mike's way of explaining every step of his diagnosis, and considering each possibility carefully and out loud, has been immensely reassuring. I feel that I have a realistic assessment of the risks and an understanding of how I need to manage our cats and my foster felines."

After acquiring a new puppy in a spur of the moment transaction, we suddenly realised that we needed a vet to get vaccinations for this cute wee thing. We chose the Animal Medical Centre in Johnsonville because that’s just what it is, they are not trying to be anything else like other commercial franchises.  Parking is easy also.

There is a real sense of family at the Animal Medical Centre.  Mike our vet is very experienced.  I have met his beautiful wife Antoinette, his mother who sometimes is the friendly face on reception.  And now and then in the reception area his 3 lovely kids have popped in to say hi to Daddy.

As new owners of our puppy Stella, of course we were nervous for her when she had her first appointment for vaccinations.  Mike was at ease with keeping puppy and owners calm.  It was over in a flash.  We left with worming, defleaing, dietary and neutering advice with all our questions answered and peace of mind.

I was recently talking with a dog owner about the portion control we have implemented with Stella’s food.  When asked why, I told her that each time we go to the vets they weigh her and she was slightly over the average weight.  The woman was impressed as her vets don’t do that.

I have given the Animal Medical Centre a couple of worried calls when Stella has jumped from a great height and has been left limping.  It’s great to get to talk to your Vet straight away.  Mike’s been there with sound advice
and /or checkups.  And he’s always there to answer any questions we have.

I can confidently recommend the Animal Medical Centre in Johnsonville as a friendly and trustworthy place to take care of your pet.
